About This Item

Evidence Audio Monorail Kit – Solderless patch kit

This SKU: 8 Angled SIS plugs, 5 ft cable, Burgundy; solderless kit – Angled SIS plugs plus Monorail bulk cable

One benefit: everything needed to wire a pedalboard solderless, cut to your exact lengths.

Description

The Monorail SIS DIY kit combines Monorail cable and right-angle SIS screw-in solderless plugs so you can wire a whole pedalboard without solder. This kit contains 8 right-angle SIS plugs and 5 ft of Monorail cable in Classic Burgundy, enough for up to 4 patch cables. Cut each patch to length and rebuild whenever your board changes.

Why players choose the Monorail Kit

Pedalboard builders choose this kit for the combination of Monorail sound quality and the convenience to build and rebuild without solder. Cut each patch to the exact length you need and reuse the plugs whenever your layout changes. The low-profile SIS plug sticks out only about 0.5 in from the jack, which helps on small pedals with closely spaced jacks.

There is a learning curve to solderless assembly, and Monorail is a stiff cable that holds its shape. Remove the conductive skin during assembly to avoid tone or volume loss, and expect your first build to take time.

How it compares

This kit is the ready-to-build bundle (plugs + cable); buy the SIS plugs or Monorail bulk cable separately if you already have the other half.

Key features

  • Kit of 8 right-angle SIS screw-in solderless 1/4" plugs plus 5 ft of Monorail cable
  • Monorail cable: solid-core IGL center conductor, 20 AWG, parallel-run shield with 98% coverage, coaxial low-capacitance, carbon-loaded extrusion, 0.155 in / 4 mm outer diameter
  • Patented screw-in design: the machined, threaded brass core of the plug cuts into the solid copper conductor, and the cap deforms the copper against the plug body for an airtight connection
  • Fully rebuildable: plugs and cable can be taken apart and reconfigured
  • Hand-built in the USA from USA-manufactured material

Assembly Tips

  • Remove the thin black conductive skin around the white insulation; if it touches where the conductor enters the plug, it can cause a full or partial short and a weak signal
  • Do not cut the cable into short pieces first: attach the first plug to the full length, measure, cut, then attach the second plug
  • Turn the plug one or two times until the brass core catches the copper, then fit the cap and screw the plug fully into it
  • Rubber gloves give better grip and protect your fingers while tightening; a rag and pliers help if the plug is hard to turn

In the Box

  • 8 right-angle SIS screw-in solderless 1/4" plugs
  • 5 ft (1.52 m) of Monorail cable in Classic Burgundy

FAQ

What's in the kit? 8 right-angle SIS solderless plugs plus 5 ft of Classic Burgundy Monorail cable.

How many patch cables can I make? Up to 4, since each patch cable uses two plugs. Lengths are up to you, within the 5 ft of cable.

Why did I get tone or volume loss? Almost always because the conductive skin wasn't removed during assembly, which can short the connection. Re-cut the end, remove the skin and reassemble.

Is the connection reliable without solder? Yes. The threaded brass core deforms the copper into an airtight connection that is in many ways better than a soldered one, and the patented system can be taken apart and rebuilt.

What tools do I need? A wire stripper and a cutter. Rubber gloves, a rag and pliers make tightening easier. No soldering iron is needed.

Can I use SIS plugs with other cables? SIS plugs are designed to work with Monorail cable: the threaded core of the plug cuts into Monorail's solid copper conductor.
