About This Item

Fulltone Full-Drive 2 V2 Overdrive Pedal with Boost. The Full-Drive 2 V2 is the 'one pedal for any gig' choice — a session-ready dual-stage overdrive that goes from transparent clean boost to thick, singing lead tone via its CC/Vintage/FM voicings plus an onboard Boost.

In the box: pedal, Fulltone quick-reference / owner's manual card, and a 9 V battery. Uses a standard center-negative 2.1 mm barrel jack for 9-18 V DC power (adapter sold separately).

Description

The Full-Drive 2 V2 is the 'one pedal for any gig' choice — a session-ready dual-stage overdrive that goes from transparent clean boost to thick, singing lead tone via its CC/Vintage/FM voicings plus an onboard Boost.

Which Fulltone pedal is this?

Full-Drive 2 V2 is the redesigned, ~30%-smaller successor to the original two-decade-old Full-Drive 2, retaining the same three-voice CC/Vintage/FM clipping selector but adding a second switch (Wide/Standard/Half-Clipped) and an independent Drive 2/Boost stage not found on the boost-less Full-Drive 1. Where FD1 has just one Overdrive knob and no boost, FD2 V2 provides separate Drive 1 and Drive 2 controls so the Boost can be tuned and stacked independently. Half-Clipped (HC) mode is unique to the V2's second switch and is described as an especially open, natural-sounding option not present on the FD1.

Why guitarists choose the Full-Drive 2 V2 Overdrive Pedal with Boost

  • Two footswitches: main overdrive on/off plus separate Boost engage
  • Three clipping/voicing modes: Comp-Cut (CC), Vintage (V), Flat-Mids (FM)
  • Second switch selects Wide / Standard / Half-Clipped (HC) character
  • Independent Drive 2/Boost-level control lets the boost stack with or replace the main drive
  • About 30% smaller enclosure than the original Full-Drive 2
  • Full-size audiophile-grade capacitors and Fulltone's own 3PDT true-bypass footswitch

Controls and switches

  • Volume knob
  • Tone knob
  • Drive 1 knob
  • Drive 2 (Boost level) knob
  • Clipping-mode switch (CC/Vintage/FM)
  • Voicing switch (Wide/Standard/Half-Clipped)
  • Boost footswitch/on-off
  • Main True-Bypass 3PDT footswitch

Power and pedalboard compatibility

  • Power: 9 V battery or 9-18 V DC, standard 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel plug, center-negative.
  • Current draw: 8 mA.
  • Bypass: True bypass (Fulltone-designed 3PDT footswitch).

FAQ

What's different between FD2 V2 and the original Full-Drive 2? The V2 chassis is about 30% smaller than the original Full-Drive 2 with the same CC/Vintage/FM voicings, but adds the Wide/Standard/Half-Clipped second switch and a Drive 2 knob with its own on/off footswitch for the boost — the original FD2 had a single boost knob with no independent voicing switch.

How does the Boost/Drive 2 stage interact with the main drive? The Boost/Drive 2 stage has its own on/off footswitch and its own Drive 2 knob, so you can dial in a lead volume/gain boost that stacks with the main drive or replaces it entirely.

What do CC, Vintage and FM voicings actually sound like? CC (Comp-Cut) tightens the low end and opens the dynamics for a more articulate feel. Vintage is a classic mid-forward TS-style voicing. FM (Flat-Mids) removes the mid hump for a more amp-like response.

What does the Wide/Standard/Half-Clipped switch change? The second switch changes the drive character: Wide is the most open and touch-responsive, STD is the classic Full-Drive voice, and HC (Half-Clipped) is a more raw, un-smoothed response.

How long will a 9 V battery last? About 20 hours of continuous use with an alkaline 9 V battery, thanks to the low current draw. Unplugging the input cable disconnects the battery.

Is the FD2 V2 a Tube-Screamer-style pedal? Yes — in Vintage (V) mode the FD2 V2 is essentially Fulltone's take on the classic 4558-op-amp Tube Screamer voicing, but with two extra clipping modes (Comp-Cut and Flat-Mids), a second character switch (Wide/Standard/Half-Clipped) and a dedicated onboard Boost. It's a Tube-Screamer-family pedal that goes well beyond a stock TS-808/TS-9.
