Description

The Hotone Wong Press SP-21 is the Cory Wong signature version of Hotone's Soul Press II platform: volume, wah, switchable volume/wah, and expression in one pedal, tuned to Wong's own specs.

Built on the Soul Press II design, Wong Press adds a volume curve customized with Cory Wong, a wah Q range tailored to his requirements, a dual-color STATUS LED strip (green for volume, blue for wah), and a blue-and-white finish with his logo. The active volume design keeps your tone intact, and separate tuner and expression outputs make it easy to fit into a modeler or pedalboard rig.

Why guitarists choose the Wong Press

  • Same 4-in-1 layout as Soul Press II, tuned for a signature artist: MODE switches between Volume, Wah, or footswitch-toggled Volume/Wah, and the treadle also works as an expression pedal.
  • Two wah voicings on tap: TONE selects WARM (290 Hz–1.4 kHz) or CLASSIC (360 Hz–1.8 kHz), with Q narrowing or widening the sweep for funk-clean or vocal-thick tones.
  • Play it with no power connected: works fully unpowered as a passive expression pedal, or add a 9V DC adapter or 9V battery to use the wah and volume circuits.
  • Drive an expression input while your signal keeps flowing, thanks to the dedicated EXP OUT 1/4" TRS jack that works in any mode.
  • TUNER OUT routes straight to a tuner so it stays outside the effect chain.
  • True bypass in V and W modes. In V/W mode the footswitch swaps between active volume and active wah, so the pedal is not bypassed in that mode.

Controls and switches

  • MODE (V / W / V-W) – chooses volume, wah, or a footswitch-selectable blend.
  • TONE (WARM / CLASSIC) – sets the wah frequency range.
  • Q – adjusts the wah filter width.
  • Footswitch – toggles the effect, or swaps volume/wah in V/W mode.
  • Power/Mode LED – shows on/off and mode (V green, W blue, V/W green/blue).
  • Dual-color STATUS LED strip – shows the current mode and treadle position.
  • Hidden 3-way STATUS switch (battery compartment) – All Off / All On / VOL Only.

Connections & Power

  • INPUT and OUTPUT – 1/4" mono jacks.
  • TUNER OUT – 1/4" jack for a tuner.
  • EXP OUT – 1/4" TRS, 10 kΩ, works in any mode.
  • DC 9V – center-negative, 5.5 x 2.1 mm barrel; maximum 30 mA.
  • Battery – one 9V battery; the compartment opens with two Phillips screws.

FAQ

What is different between Wong Press and Soul Press II? They share the same 4-in-1 platform, control layout, wah ranges, 10 kΩ EXP OUT, and 30 mA draw. Wong Press adds a volume curve customized with Cory Wong, a wah Q range tailored to his requirements, a dual-color STATUS LED strip, and the blue-and-white signature finish; it weighs 512 g versus 500 g.

Can I use Wong Press with no power connected? Yes, when used purely as an expression pedal it needs no power. The 9V adapter or a 9V battery is only required for the wah and volume functions.

What cable do I need for expression control? A standard 1/4" TRS (stereo) cable from EXP OUT to your device's expression input. EXP OUT is a 10 kΩ pot output and works in any mode.

Is it true bypass? Yes, in V and W modes. In V/W mode the footswitch toggles between active volume and active wah, so the pedal cannot be bypassed there; use V-only or W-only mode for on/off switching.

What power supply does it need? A 9V DC center-negative adapter (5.5 x 2.1 mm) rated for at least 30 mA, or a 9V battery. The adapter is not included.

Can I turn off the LED strip? Yes. The 3-way STATUS switch inside the battery compartment sets the LEDs to All Off, All On, or VOL Only.
