About This Item

The Eventide MixingLink is a stompbox-sized microphone preamplifier with switchable 48V phantom power and a footswitchable effects loop. It lets a microphone drive a pedalboard and then feed a PA or an interface through a balanced XLR output that switches between DI and line level.

MixingLink measures 9.1 x 6.7 x 3.8 cm, runs on 9V DC center negative drawing up to 200 mA from the included international supply, and also operates on a 9V battery, although phantom power is unavailable in battery mode. The signal path is fully analog throughout.

Description

MixingLink puts a high-gain microphone preamp on the floor, so a dynamic, condenser or ribbon mic can be sent through your pedals and back out to a PA on a balanced XLR, all from a box the size of a stompbox.

MixingLink is not an effect. It is the front end that makes a pedalboard usable with a microphone: a mic preamp with up to 65 dB of clean gain, 48V phantom power, a footswitchable send and return loop, an XLR output switchable between DI and line level, a guitar amp output and a headphone amp. It works just as well in front of harmonizer and vocal pedals as with guitar effects.

Why vocalists and guitarists choose the MixingLink

  • Up to 65 dB of clean gain with a HI/LO gain button covers dynamic, condenser and ribbon microphones.
  • Switchable 48V phantom power runs condenser mics without a separate preamp or mixer channel.
  • The footswitchable send and return loop puts guitar pedals in a vocal chain, with latching or momentary action and a Tails switch that decides whether reverb and delay decay naturally when you switch out.
  • A three-position Mix Mode sets dry plus effects, a wet/dry blend or effects only.
  • The XLR output switches between DI and line level and has a ground lift, so the same box can feed a PA, a stage box or a recording interface.
  • An instrument input and a TO AMP output let it double as a guitar front end and loop switcher.
  • The 1/8" AUX connection carries a stereo return from a phone or tablet and sends the signal back out, so backing tracks come in and recordings go out.
  • It runs on a 9V battery as well as the supplied universal power supply.

Controls

  • INPUT GAIN Mic preamp gain, with a GAIN button that shifts the range by about 22 dB (HI/LO); PK (clip) and -20 LEDs show level.
  • MIX Balances the dry signal against the effects return.
  • MIX MODE Three-position switch: DRY+FX, MIX (wet/dry) or FX ONLY.
  • PHONES & AMP LEVEL Sets the level of the TO AMP and PHONES outputs.
  • FX LOOP footswitch With status LED; the HOLD/LATCH switch selects momentary or latching action.
  • 48V PHANTOM Three-position switch: phantom on, phantom off, or battery operation.
  • GND LIFT Lifts pin 1 of the XLR output to cure hum.
  • DIP switches On the underside: DI/LINE output level (LINE by default) and SW6 Tails ON/OFF (OFF by default).

Connections & Power

  • MIC/LINE IN Combo XLR / 1/4" TRS, balanced.
  • INST IN 1/4" Hi-Z instrument input.
  • TO FX / FROM FX 1/4" send and return, balanced or unbalanced.
  • TO AMP 1/4" unbalanced output for a guitar amp.
  • PHONES Stereo mini jack (1/8"), 150 mW per channel into 8 Ohm minimum.
  • DI/LINE OUT Balanced XLR.
  • AUX 1/8" TRRS, bidirectional: stereo input from a mobile device, mono send back to it.
  • Power 9V DC center-negative, 2.1 mm barrel, 200 mA minimum, 12V DC maximum; universal power supply included. Also runs on a 9V battery (alkaline recommended); phantom power is available only on the power supply.

FAQ

Does MixingLink add any effects of its own? No. It contains no effects. It is a preamp and routing tool that sends your signal out to external pedals and brings it back.

Can it power a condenser microphone? Yes. It supplies switchable 48V phantom power, but only when running from the power supply; phantom power is not available on battery.

Can I run it on a battery? Yes. It runs on a 9V battery (alkaline recommended), selected with the battery position of the 48V PHANTOM switch. Phantom power is not available in that mode.

What can I plug into the outputs? The balanced XLR DI/LINE OUT feeds a PA or an interface depending on the DI/LINE switch and has a ground lift, the TO AMP 1/4" output feeds a guitar amp, and the 1/8" PHONES mini jack drives headphones at 150 mW per channel into 8 Ohm minimum.

Do reverb tails cut off when I switch the loop out? That is your choice. The SW6 Tails ON/OFF DIP switch on the underside (OFF by default) determines whether tails from the pedals in the loop continue after the loop is switched out.

Does it have MIDI or USB? No. MixingLink has no MIDI, no USB and no Bluetooth.
