About This Item
Description
The Valeton VDS-3D runs two pitch-shifted voices, one above and one below the note you play, with a separate dry level. Its CTRL footswitch glides between the voices, so you get footswitch-controlled pitch transitions without an expression pedal.
PITCH A sets an interval above the input, from unison up to two octaves. PITCH B sets an interval below the input, from unison down to two octaves. A WET B sets the mix between PITCH A and PITCH B, and DRY sets the dry signal level from 0 to 100%.
The PITCH footswitch turns the pitch effect on and off. The CTRL footswitch triggers pitch transitions. A three-position toggle selects the transition: A-B, B-A or A+B. RISE sets the glide time when you press CTRL, and FALL sets the glide time back when you release it.
With PITCH on:
- A-B: pressing CTRL glides from A to B; releasing glides back to A.
- B-A: pressing glides from B to A; releasing glides back to B.
- A+B: pressing glides from A+B to unison; releasing glides back to A+B.
With PITCH off, CTRL glides from the dry signal to A, to B, or to A+B, and back to dry when released. This requires Buffered Bypass mode.
Bypass mode can be set to True Bypass or Buffered Bypass. The factory setting is Buffered Bypass.
Inputs: L (Mono) and R. Outputs: L and R. The pedal can be used in stereo or in mono.

Pedalzoo Use Cases — Expert Tips
Suggested starting points from Pedalzoo. Adjust them to your guitar, amp and the rest of your board.
- Octave layer: set PITCH A to 1 octave up or PITCH B to 1 octave down, and use DRY to keep your original note in front of the shifted voice.
- Two shifted voices plus dry: set one interval on PITCH A and another on PITCH B, use A WET B to balance the two voices, and DRY to decide how much of your own note stays in the mix.
- Fast in, slow out: with PITCH on and the toggle in A-B, set a short RISE and a long FALL. Pressing CTRL then moves quickly from A to B, and releasing it glides slowly back to A.
- Glides from your dry tone: for CTRL transitions while PITCH is off, select Buffered Bypass first. Valeton lists Buffered Bypass as required for this.

FAQ
Which intervals are available? PITCH A: unison, minor 2nd, major 2nd, minor 3rd, major 3rd, 4th, 5th, 1 octave and 2 octaves up. PITCH B: the same intervals down.
What does the CTRL footswitch do? It triggers a pitch transition selected by the toggle (A-B, B-A or A+B). RISE sets the glide time when you press CTRL, and FALL sets the glide time when you release it.
How do I switch between True Bypass and Buffered Bypass? Hold both footswitches while powering on. The indicator shows the current mode: green is True Bypass, red is Buffered Bypass. After choosing a mode, press both footswitches together until the indicators turn off to save it. If you power off without saving, the setting is not kept.
When do I need Buffered Bypass? To use CTRL transitions from the dry signal while PITCH is off.
Can I use it in mono? Yes. Connect your instrument to the L (Mono) input and use the L output. For mono in, stereo out, connect the L (Mono) input and both outputs.
Is a power supply included? Power supply not included. Use a 9V DC supply, center negative, with a 5.5 × 2.1 mm plug, rated for 300 mA or more.
What is the USB port used for? You can connect it to a computer to update the pedal's firmware.
What warranty does it have? 1 year. Warranty service in Canada and the United States is provided by Pedalzoo. Contact us at ca@pedalzoo.com.
