About This Item

Death by Audio Echo Dream 2 is a modulating delay pedal with a post echo fuzz stage. A dedicated modulator with Speed, Depth and a shape toggle warps the repeats, while Fuzz drives the output from clean to overdriven to fully pulverised.

Controls: Master, Fuzz, Delay, D Time, FBack, Speed, Depth, plus Dry and Mod Shape toggles. Power: 9 to 18 V DC, 2.1 mm center negative, 40 mA, 9 V battery supported. True bypass. Enclosure 14.91 x 11.99 x 5.97 cm including hardware, 21 oz. Handmade in New York with a lifetime guarantee.

Description

A delay that warbles, warps and then gets pulverised by fuzz. Echo Dream 2 is a lush modulating echo with a fuzz stage after the delay. Gentle warble and chorus sit at one end, fully warped repeats and runaway self oscillation at the other, and the Fuzz control can distort clean signal and repeats alike.

Which Death by Audio delay is this?

  • Dream Station: reverb and delay together in a small stereo enclosure.
  • Space Bender: modulated delay lines used as a chorus rather than an echo.
  • Echo Master: the XLR vocal version of the Death By Audio echo idea.

Echo Dream 2 is the full featured mono echo with its own modulator and fuzz. Reach for it when the repeats themselves need to be the effect.

Why guitarists choose the Echo Dream 2

  • A dedicated modulator with Speed and Depth turns plain repeats into warble, chorus or full pitch warp.
  • The Fuzz control sits after the echo, so you can dirty the repeats without losing the note you played.
  • The Dry toggle kills the dry signal, which makes it usable as a wet only send in a studio setup.
  • FBACK runs from single slapback to runaway self oscillation for controlled chaos.
  • It accepts 9 V, 12 V or 18 V DC, so extra headroom is one power cable away.
  • True bypass with a 9 V battery option and only 40 mA of current draw.

Controls and switches

  • MASTER sets the overall output volume.
  • FUZZ sets the gain after the echo, from clean through overdrive to fuzz, and distorts both clean signal and repeats.
  • DELAY sets the level of the delayed signal.
  • D TIME sets the time between repeats, with the scale marked in milliseconds.
  • FBACK sets the feedback, from slapback to runaway self oscillation.
  • SPEED sets the modulator rate and DEPTH sets how far the modulator swings the delay time.
  • The DRY toggle up passes the dry signal, down kills it so only repeats are heard.
  • The MOD SHAPE toggle up gives a smoother sine like waveform and down gives a sharp square shape.

Power and pedalboard compatibility

  • Runs on 9-18 V DC (page: "9V, 12V, or 18V VDC supply"; manual: "9-18 Volt DC Adaptor"), 2.1 mm barrel, center negative.
  • Current draw is 40 mA, so budget that on your supply.
  • A 9 V battery can also power it.
  • True bypass means it is completely out of the signal path when it is off, so place it wherever the chain sounds best.
  • Jacks sit along the top edge, which keeps patch cables out of the row in front.
  • Routing: Mono (single INPUT and OUTPUT shown on the manual panel diagram).
  • It measures 14.91 x 11.99 x 5.97 cm including hardware, so measure your row before ordering.

FAQ

How long are the repeats? The official product page describes D Time as running between 20 ms and 1 second, while the manual states 20 ms to 1.2 seconds. Both cover slapback through long, warped echoes.

Can I run it at 18 volts? Yes. Death By Audio lists 9 V, 12 V or 18 V DC operation for this pedal.

What does the Dry toggle do? Up lets the dry signal through, down removes it so you hear only the repeats. That makes it useful on an effects send.

Does the fuzz affect my clean tone? Yes if the dry signal is passing. The Fuzz stage sits after the echo and distorts both the dry sound and the repeats.

What is the difference between the two modulation shapes? Up is a smoother sine like waveform for warble and chorus. Down is a sharp square shape for stepped, jarring pitch movement.

Can it run on a battery? Yes, a 9 V battery is supported. Current draw is 40 mA.

Is there a warranty? Death By Audio states the pedal is guaranteed for life and asks owners to contact repairs@deathbyaudio.com.
