Description

The fuzz of all fuzzes, and still the reference point. Fuzz War is the ultimate sustaining fuzz: articulate enough that you can hear every nuance of your playing, and capable of a super thick wall of fuzz when you want it. One sweep of the Fuzz knob covers booster, overdrive, thick distortion and total collapse.

Which Death by Audio Fuzz War is right for you?

  • Bass War: the bass voiced development of this circuit, with a clean blend.
  • Apocalypse: five selectable fuzz voices and a sweepable equalizer.
  • Thee Treble Overload: the treble focused boost that revives the Thee Fuzz War Overload circuit.

Fuzz War is the original guitar voiced version. If you play bass and need the low end to stay intact, the Bass War is the model built for that job.

Why guitarists choose the Fuzz War

  • It stays articulate at low Fuzz settings, so chords keep their shape instead of turning to mush.
  • The active multi curve tone filter moves from deep bass sludge to screaming highs rather than just rolling off treble.
  • With Fuzz fully down the Tone knob works as a frequency shifter for parked wah effects.
  • Sustain holds long enough for feedback and drone playing without an extra boost.
  • It draws only 1 mA and runs from a 9 V battery or adapter, so it fits anywhere.
  • True bypass, hand built in New York City in a raw metal enclosure.

Controls and switches

  • VOLUME sets the overall output level.
  • FUZZ sets the gain of the fuzz circuit. At its lowest setting the pedal acts as a tone shifter, and it sweeps up to a full blown out wall of fuzz.
  • TONE is a specially designed active multi curve shaping filter that moves the timbre from deep bass sludge to screaming highs.
  • The footswitch is true bypass, with a red indicator LED.

Power and pedalboard compatibility

  • Runs on 9 V DC, 2.1 mm barrel, center negative.
  • Current draw is 1 mA, so budget that on your supply.
  • A 9 V battery can also power it.
  • True bypass means it is completely out of the signal path when it is off, so place it wherever the chain sounds best.
  • Jacks sit along the top edge, which keeps patch cables out of the row in front.
  • It measures 14.91 x 11.99 x 6.35 cm including hardware, so measure your row before ordering.

FAQ

What makes it different from a standard fuzz? The Tone control is an active multi curve filter rather than a simple treble cut, and the Fuzz control keeps the note articulate long before it reaches the wall of fuzz.

Can I get a parked wah sound? Yes. With Fuzz fully down, the Tone knob acts as a frequency shifter, which gives you a fixed wah style voicing.

Will it work on bass? It will, but the Bass War is the version voiced for bass, with a clean blend that keeps the fundamental in place.

Can it run on a battery? Yes, a 9 V battery is supported, and current draw is only 1 mA.

Is it true bypass? Yes.

Where should it go in the chain? Early, before modulation, delay and reverb, so those effects react to the fuzz rather than being swallowed by it.

How big is it? 14.91 x 11.99 x 6.35 cm including hardware, weighing 18 oz.
