About This Item
Description
Warm, tube-flavored dual-distortion in a compact stompbox — Level I gives you gritty crunch for rhythm work while Level II unloads thick, saturated lead tones with a single footswitch.
Which T-Rex Mudhoney is this?
The Mudhoney 2 (V2) is the modern take on T-Rex's long-running dual-distortion. It doubles the pedal down to two independently voiced gain channels — Level I for crunch and lower-gain rhythm, Level II for saturated lead — with a Sub switch that adds low-end thump. The original single-channel Denmark-built version is still made and sold separately as the T-Rex Mudhoney Distortion (Danish Collection).
Why guitarists choose this pedal
- Two footswitchable distortion channels — Crunch (I) and Lead (II) — replacing two overdrive pedals with one enclosure.
- Shared Bass and Treble EQ that tracks with both channels, keeping your tonal fingerprint consistent when you switch.
- Sub Switch adds low-end weight for down-tuned rhythms and thicker single-coil sounds.
- True bypass keeps your clean tone intact when the pedal is off.
- 9 V DC or 9 V battery operation for full pedalboard flexibility.
Controls and switches
- Level I — output volume of the crunch channel.
- Gain I — how much saturation you feed the crunch channel.
- Level II — output volume of the lead channel.
- Gain II — how much saturation you feed the lead channel.
- Bass — shared low-frequency shelf across both channels.
- Treble — shared high-frequency shelf across both channels.
- Sub switch — engages a low-end boost for thicker rhythm.
- Footswitch I — engages the crunch (Level I) channel.
- Footswitch II — engages the lead (Level II) channel.
Power and pedalboard compatibility
- 9 V DC only, negative-center, standard 2.1 mm Boss-style barrel (accepts 8–12.5 V DC).
- Current draw ~20 mA — comfortable on any modern isolated power brick.
- 9 V battery capable — a fresh alkaline gives roughly 15–20 hours of playing time.
- True bypass — place anywhere in your chain, though most players run it after buffered pedals and before modulation/time-based effects.

FAQ
How is the Mudhoney 2 different from the original Mudhoney?
The original Mudhoney is a single-channel distortion, hand-built in Denmark. The Mudhoney 2 is a two-channel version with independent gain and level per channel plus a Sub low-end switch, giving you crunch and lead in one enclosure. The Danish-built original is still sold on our site — see the Mudhoney Distortion Danish Collection.
Can I run it at 18 V for more headroom?
No — the pedal accepts 8–12.5 V DC only. Do not exceed 12.5 V.
Is it true bypass or buffered?
True bypass. When the pedal is off, your signal passes straight through with no tonal coloration.
Does the Sub switch add gain or just low end?
It shapes the low end — it boosts and thickens the bass response of both channels without changing gain amount.
What kind of guitar is it best for?
Single-coils, humbuckers, and P-90s all work well. Country, blues, classic rock, and modern hard rock are all in its wheelhouse.
Warranty?
2-year manufacturer warranty.
