Description

Swiss Things® combines two true-bypass Flexi-Switch® enabled effects loops, a Flexi-Switch® AB-Y box with transformer isolation between outputs, a buffered tuner output, 20dB of clean boost with adjustable gain, an expression pedal output for volume control and a quiet, high headroom output buffer into a compact pedalboard-friendly signal routing junction box that lives at the top-right corner of your pedalboard and really ties your rig together without any signal loss.

This is what you can do with it:

  • Use as many pedals as you’d like without tone-suck

  • Quickly and easily bypass or engage all of your effects with one click

  • Use Flexi-Switch® Technology with every pedal in your setup

  • Eliminate volume pedal tone-suck by using any expression pedal to control volume

  • Use multiple amps without phase issues, ground loops, or extra noise

  • Tidy up your rig, shorten cable runs, and reduce tone loss by keeping all inputs and outputs in one location

CONTROLS

Here’s what the footswitches do:

Loop 1: Press this to engage Loop 1. It features Flexi-Switch® Technology and is unbuffered for use with all distortion, overdrive, and fuzz pedals, or anything else that doesn’t like being buffered.

Loop 2: Press this to engage Loop 2. It also features Flexi-Switch® Technology and is buffered for use with time-based effects (delay, reverb, modulation, etc.).

Note: when nothing is plugged into Loop 2, it functions as a mute.

Boost: press this to activate the boost. It is Flexi-Switch® Technology enabled and provides up to 20dB of clean boost post-effects loops and is intended for use as an output booster.

A/B: selects between Output A and Output B.

Note: Output B is transformer-isolated and includes a Phase switch for use with pedals and/or amplifiers which invert phase.

Both: activates Output A and Output B at the same time and features Flexi-Switch® Technology

Here’s what the input, output, send, return, and expression jacks are for:

Input: plug your instrument in here.

Note: If you have any “always-on” pedals (compressors, preamps, EQs, etc.) place them before Swiss Things’ input.

Loop 1 Send: Plug this into the input of the first pedal in the octave/overdrive/distortion/fuzz section of your board.

Loop 1 Return: Plug the output of the last pedal of the octave/overdrive/distortion/fuzz section into this jack.

Loop 2 Send: Plug this into the input of the first pedal in the modulation section of your board.

Loop 2 Return: Plug the output of the last pedal of your modulation section into this jack.

Tuner Output: Connect this to the input of your tuner.

Note: Tuner must be always turned on. If you bypass your tuner, you may experience ground loops or hum.

Volume EXP: Connect any expression pedal to this output to control volume.

Note: Most volume pedals create “tone-suck” by loading the signal down and have limited travel. This solves that problem with a buffered output and allows you to use any expression pedal with the same results. The expression jack is placed after the “dirt” effects loop (Loop 1) which allows you to change volume levels without affecting gain.

Output A: connect this to the input of your amplifier.

Output B: connect this to the input of a separate amplifier to use multiple amps and/or to play in stereo.

Note: To use Swiss Things with stereo effects, they should be placed after Outputs A & B and both outputs must be selected using the Both switch.

Note: Output B is transformer-isolated and includes a Phase switch for use with pedals and/or amplifiers which invert phase.

Note: To use stereo effects after Swiss Things, do not have the Phase switch engaged otherwise the L & R inputs of your stereo effects will be out of phase.

I was a little wary of this at first. Quite expensive for an ABY box but it’s much more than that. I set it up so that all my pedals that rely on unfiltered dynamics or don’t like buffers go in loop one and all my pedals that are fine with buffers (mostly modulations and delays) go in loop two. Loop switching and activation is a cool feature on this. You can use the loop switches in momentary mode just by pressing and holding them or use them as latching by pressing them once normally. This gives you the ability to have effects in one loop on and then activate some others temporarily. It’s cool.

The. There’s the clean boost. It lives between the two loops. It’ll boost what comes out of loop one and pass it into whatever is next in the chain. It’s a really nice sounding boost.

Then there’s the ABY part of this thing which is the real winner for me. You can run pedals in true stereo without phase issues. The trick is to put stereo pedals like the Avalanche Run after the Swiss Things instead of in one of the loops. You can switch between amps or use two at once. It’s easy to deal with phase issues by pressing the phase switch. The signal to both amps is always clean and strong.

Tuner output is great. You have to remember to always leave the tuner on otherwise the Swiss Things won’t work properly. The circuit is designed to have an always-on tuner connected to the tuner output.

The volume expression jack lets you use any expression pedal as a volume pedal and they say there’s no tone suck by doing this. I didn’t know volume pedals sucked tone like wahs and never used them but now I have this and it’s fun to play with the volume pedal for different ambient sounds.

What I like most is that for someone like me who likes to play directly into the amp but also add in some e pedals, it’s easy to turn all the pedals off at once and go direct into the amp.

The only thing that really had me concerned about this pedal was the cost. It's pretty standard $335. I got this on a Black Friday sale for around $285. Still pricey is seems for a a pedal that isn't really much of an effect pedal and doesn't seem at first glance to be really "fun". But in the end, if you have a decent size pedalboard this thing is worth it, even at regular price imo.

Here are some highlights:
-Boost: this thing acts as a boost pedal if you want. And if you want boost, then this is an excellent pedal. You can replace your current one. The boost in this is pretty amazing. I was sorta blown away how nice of a boost they put into this. But it's EDQ, I should have expected pure quality.
-Tuner out: brilliant; love it
-expression pedal can be used now with every pedal if you have swiss things to control volume. This is the one feature I haven't used because i just haven't settled on an expression pedal yet. Yet.
-Loops: What most people will have in mind for this pedal; but it really works so well to just slam on several effects at once or mute them all. Simple and powerful.
-Flexi tech to every pedal you own: sorta beautiful how well this works with pedals and how useful it ends up being for those momentary. Even if all you had was 4 pedals, this feature will benefit you.
-Protection for your pedals: yeah, this one rarely gets mentioned. But with Swiss Things you're no longer wearing out your pedals by stomping on them. You leave them on and stomp on ST instead. Over time that can really pay off I think

Probably my biggest complaint is how stereo pedals are used with this device when playing in stereo. There must be a better solution (maybe in Mk 2?) than having to put them after Swiss Things. Seems a bit silly to me but oh well.

This pedal isn't for everyone. I can understand if someone with only a few pedals can't see what the big deal is. But I have 15+ pedals on my board and this thing keeps the ton going strong and has me reorganizing how i'm arranging my pedals. Being able to turn 5 pedals on at once, or 5 pedals with flexi just for a moment is great. It's solidly built and looks beautiful for those concerned with looks. And, it's actually a pretty fun pedal to play around with.

Excellent piece for your pedal board. Cleans up the two loops of effects. Great tool to have.

The headline says it all. I love this pedal. Hard to believe it's not a particular effect, yet is one of my favorite pedals.

You have to buy this, that's all there is to it. I was pretty confident Jamie S./EQD wouldn't develop this and release it unless it was very beneficial to having in your signal chain. It does exactly what it says it does, it routes your signal very efficiently for a number of different scenarios. The Flexi switching is a huge huge advantage, having 2 different loops with and without buffers is HUGE as well. The clean boost is seriously fantastic, it just makes everything sound better, not just louder. The design is just wonderful, i was a little weary about spending this much money on a signal routing utility, but I'm telling you now if you have a pedal board, you need this it's that simple.
