About This Item

Fulltone Custom Shop OCD Germanium Overdrive Pedal. For players chasing the most tube-like, dynamic OCD tone with extra sustain and richer overtones, the germanium-diode Custom Shop OCD-Ge trades ultimate diode-supply availability for a warmer, more focused single-note voice.

In the box: pedal, Fulltone quick-reference / owner's manual card, and a 9 V battery. Uses a standard center-negative 2.1 mm barrel jack for 9-18 V DC power (adapter sold separately).

Description

For players chasing the most tube-like, dynamic OCD tone with extra sustain and richer overtones, the germanium-diode Custom Shop OCD-Ge trades ultimate diode-supply availability for a warmer, more focused single-note voice.

Which Fulltone pedal is this?

The OCD-Ge is a limited Custom Shop build using 2 Mosfets plus 2 Germanium diodes, built after Fulltone secured a large stash of the correct-spec Germanium diodes; the earliest production OCDs used only 1 Germanium diode. Compared to the standard OCD v2, the Ge version is described as louder (hence the audio-taper volume pot) with greater definition, wider dynamic range, more sustain and a more tube-like feel. It shares the same HP/LP switch, Drive/Volume/Tone control layout and switchable True-Bypass/Enhanced Bypass as other Series-4-era OCDs.

Why guitarists choose the Custom Shop OCD Germanium Overdrive Pedal

  • Custom Shop variant of the OCD using 2 MOSFETs plus 2 Germanium diodes (vs. 1 diode on earliest OCDs)
  • Metallic Teal finish with chrome undercoat that shifts hue with light/angle
  • Blue LED indicator
  • Internally switchable True-Bypass or 'pop-free' Enhanced Bypass
  • Audio-taper volume pot for easier low-range volume setting since this OCD runs louder
  • Runs on 9V or up to 18V DC for extra headroom and dynamics

Controls and switches

  • Drive knob
  • Volume knob
  • Tone knob
  • HP/LP switch
  • internal True-Bypass/Enhanced Bypass selector switch

Power and pedalboard compatibility

  • Power: 9 V battery included or 9-18 V DC, standard 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel plug, center-negative.
  • Current draw: 8 mA.
  • Bypass: Switchable True-Bypass or Enhanced Bypass (internal slide switch).

FAQ

Why does the OCD-Ge cost more than the standard OCD v2? The OCD-Ge is a Custom Shop build using two matched germanium diodes and MOSFET clipping. The germanium diodes Fulltone considers correct-spec for this circuit are extremely limited in supply, and the pedal is hand-assembled in smaller batches than the standard OCD V2 — both of which push the price above the flagship OCD.

What's the sonic difference between 1 and 2 Germanium diodes? The OCD-Ge uses two matched germanium diodes (versus one in the standard OCD lineage), which gives it a smoother clipping curve, more sustain and a warmer harmonic character. Fulltone's stash of the correct-spec germanium diodes is limited, which is why the pedal is priced above the standard OCD V2.

What does Enhanced Bypass do versus True Bypass? True bypass means the pedal is completely out of the signal path when off. Enhanced Bypass keeps a low-impedance buffer active off-state to preserve top-end when you're running a long cable or many bypassed pedals.

Can it run on 18V and is a special power supply needed? Yes. Fulltone Custom Shop OCD Germanium Overdrive Pedal runs on 9 V or up to 18 V DC. Higher voltage gives more headroom, cleaner dynamics and slightly firmer feel. Use a standard center-negative isolated supply.

Is this pedal a limited/discontinued run? Yes. The OCD-Ge is a limited Custom Shop build that depends on Fulltone's finite stash of the correct-spec germanium diodes. Once those are used up, this exact circuit will no longer be produced.

HP vs LP switch — which setting for British-voiced tones? HP (High Peak) has a bass-focused, mid-forward voicing that pushes an amp into British-style breakup. LP (Low Peak) is flatter and more transparent, closer to a stacking-style overdrive.
